EcoVapor Recovery Systems (A DNOW Company) is excited to announce that Marcus Knox of our team will be presenting a new research paper on “Managing Oxygen Corrosion Risk in Natural Gas Pipelines” at the GPA Midstream Technical Conference from April 20-23 in Plano, Texas at the Hilton Granite Park.
The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Central Daylight Time.
Oxygen Corrosion in Natural Gas Pipelines– The Often Overlooked Threat
Oxygen contamination is one of the most aggressive and underestimated threats to natural gas pipeline integrity, as even low concentrations can significantly accelerate corrosion, leading to pitting, wall thinning, equipment damage, operational disruptions, and potentially catastrophic failure.
The presentation will review the fundamental drivers of pipeline corrosion with a focus on oxygen-driven mechanisms, explaining why strict oxygen limits are enforced and the consequences when they are exceeded.
Drawing on accident data, research, and field observations, Marcus will discuss how oxygen intensifies electrochemical, acid-gas (CO₂ and H₂S), and microbially induced corrosion (MIC), often at concentrations lower than other corrosive agents, while interacting with moisture, pressure, and microbial activity to create localized, hard-to-detect damage.
We will also address how oxygen enters production systems, the operational and economic impacts of compliance (including curtailments and flaring), and the basis for regulatory and tariff specifications.
Finally, they will review mitigation strategies such as source control, monitoring, and treatment technologies, reinforcing that preventing oxygen ingress is essential for ensuring safety, reliability, and the long-term viability of pipeline infrastructure.
Mitigate Corrosion Risk and Maximize Profitability with Oxygen Removal Technology
Although oil and gas operators have access to a wide array of tools for enhancing the efficiency and profitability of their production facilities, many are leaving untapped opportunities on the table, especially when it comes to maximizing the capture and value of the entire production stream.
EcoVapor Recovery Systems continues to advance vapor recovery technologies that allow operators to recover tank vapor gas, condition it to meet pipeline specifications, and sell it instead of combusting it in a flare or enclosed combustion device (ECD).
Our solutions are engineered to help operators:
- Decontaminate BTU-rich tank vapor of oxygen to meet pipeline specification, converting a waste stream into revenue
- Reduce methane and VOC emissions through efficient vapor capture
- Enhance compliance with evolving federal and state air quality regulations
- Improve operational efficiency and profitability of production facilities
About the GPA Midstream Technical Conference
The GPA Midstream Technical Conference was founded in 1921 to address the growing oil and gas industry’s need for technical standards. The association’s technical committees have developed and maintained industry standards and reference bulletins, in addition to publishing more than 200 research reports. Technical committees and workgroups collaborate year-round to ensure the accuracy of technical information companies use to make important operating decisions. The Technical Conference brings together the industry’s technical community and offers educational sessions, vital committee work, and valuable networking opportunities.
