EcoVapor is proud of the contribution our innovative technology makes to emissions reduction. We help our clients increase gas capture and reduce the emissions from routine flaring and venting.
As we reach mid-year, we’re taking a moment to pause and celebrate that contribution.
Based on the volume of vapor that has flowed through our fleet of ZerO2 units – as either reported by our clients or estimated based on system performance data – we have helped avoid 1.2 million metric tonnes of CO2e emissions in the first half of the year.
That’s the equivalent of taking 42,000 cars off the road!
Our CEO, Jason Roe, commented that “we are proud of the progress our customers are making in reducing routine flaring and GHG emissions. The increasing adoption of our technology is making a big difference – something we can all be proud of.”
So how is that possible? And how much does it cost?
It’s actually quite simple – and more than pays for itself, within weeks of installation!
By treating oxygen contamination (up to 50,000 ppm), the ZerO2 system lets operators capture and sell all the low-pressure vapor generated at the well site. We also offer solutions for sequestering H2S, where applicable.
The gas is captured directly from atmospheric storage tanks, rather than immediately downstream of the separator (as would be the case with a vapor recovery tower, for example). This avoids flaring or venting the additional 30-40% of total vapor that comes out of solution from oil and water streams once they reach atmospheric pressure.
The captured gas is usually rich in natural gas liquids, making it a valuable addition to the gas production stream.
According to clients who have been willing to share detailed production and economic data, capturing and selling the gas generates a 2-3x return on invested capital over a period of 5 years, and the payback time is usually less than six months.
What about retrofitting this technology to older well sites or ones where production is expected to decline rapidly after the well/s is/are turned in line?
We have developed a range of equipment sizes that are quick and easy to install and replace. This lets operators right-size the technology throughout the life of the well site to ensure ongoing profitability.
Despite these great results, we’re not resting on our laurels. We’re delighted to see adoption of EcoVapor’s gas treatment and emission reduction solutions accelerating over the past year but there’s still much work to be done. Flaring and venting continues at thousands of well sites.
