DENVER, CO (November 3, 2021) – EcoVapor Recovery Systems, the leader in solutions to eliminate natural gas flaring and venting, announced today it had received a new order from a large multinational developer of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) projects. The order is for the ZerO2 E300 oxygen purification solution, to be deployed in a dairy feedstock RNG project.
The RNG project is currently under construction and located at a dairy farm in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. The project is designed to convert animal waste into methane for selling to the local pipeline utility.
RNG is a Significant and Growing Market
The U.S. Energy Information Agency reported that in 2020 renewable energy sources supplied 12 percent of the nation’s primary energy consumption and that 20 percent of total U.S. electricity generation was from renewable sources. Biomass, which includes dairy feedstock projects, made up 39 percent of total renewable energy.
Raw biogas has a methane content between 45 and 65 percent, depending on the source of the feedstock, and must be upgraded before it can be sold as RNG. The upgrade process includes removing moisture and other contaminates, including oxygen and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Once upgraded, the gas has a methane content exceeding 90 percent and RNG sold into natural gas pipelines typically has methane content ranging between 96 and 98 percent.
RNG Application for ZerO2 Technology
Even upgraded RNG, however, can contain levels of oxygen that exceed pipeline specifications, making it unsellable. Commercialization requires a substantial reduction or elimination of oxygen from the gas so it can be sold into natural gas pipeline systems.
This dairy feedstock project will employ the EcoVapor ZerO2 oxygen purification solution to safely remove oxygen from the gas stream, so it can be sold.
Importantly, no modification to the base ZerO2 unit is required for use in RNG applications. This significantly increases the scalability of EcoVapor technology into the RNG market in a cost-efficient way.

It uses a simple but highly effective dry iron oxide scavenger to safely remove hydrogen sulfide from the gas stream. This eliminates the complex equipment and scale inhibitors needed when using liquid chemicals. The spent iron oxide is easily and safely vacuumed from the vessel and disposed of in a local landfill without any special permits.
