The oil and gas industry provides us with affordable and reliable energy, and producers are being asked to do more to improve sustainability by reducing emissions and eliminating waste. Flaring of natural gas as “waste gas,” not only generates emissions that contribute to ozone formation, but also wastes a valuable resource (have you seen the price of natural gas these days?!). Essentially, for every cubic foot of gas wasted, another has to be produced to meet demand.
There is a better way.
One of the major causes of flaring is the burning of tank vapor gas – gas that accumulates in oil and water storage tanks – because it is contaminated and cannot be safely sold to a natural gas pipeline. EcoVapor’s ZerO2 technology, however, allows oil and gas producers to purify gas at the well site, directly from the storage tanks, so it can meet pipeline specifications and be sold. From the perspective of the producer, it is an opportunity to put out the flare, reduce emissions and earn a profit at the same time.
An Order of Magnitude
Our E300 oxygen removal unit is our most popular ZerO2 model and each of the E300s operating in Colorado can treat the energy equivalent of 264 million cubic feet of natural gas annually.
Based on gas data supplied by the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project and from the 2020 Census, the ZerO2 units operating in Colorado alone can conserve enough gas to supply the annual gas required by nearly 50% of the homes in Denver and Arapahoe Counties.
That is a huge number! It demonstrates the significant positive impact technology can make in mitigating climate change while retaining the benefits of reliable and affordable energy.
We are proud of our role in innovating environmental performance solutions that eliminate wasteful flaring, minimize emissions, conserve valuable resources and make Colorado a great place to live.
