The effort to reduce emissions from energy production, transportation and storage systems continues to gain momentum. Driven by the need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas emissions, most notably methane, producers of geologic natural gas and biogas are turning to technology to help them improve both environmental performance and economic sustainability.
One of those technologies is the ZerO2™ catalytic oxygen removal (sometimes called “deoxo”) system from EcoVapor. Tank vapor gas or biogas possessing oxygen levels exceeding commercial pipeline specification gas presents a serious risk of corrosion to pipelines and infrastructure, so it must be flared or otherwise combusted, which in turn generates emissions.
ZerO2 technology is an environmentally friendly solution for removing oxygen from tank vapor gas and biogas feedstocks so these gas streams can be commercialized and sold to natural gas pipelines instead of flared, combusted or otherwise vented to the atmosphere. ZerO2 helps operators convert a waste stream into revenue, improving environmental performance and economic results.
U.S. producers of natural gas, whether from geologic or biogas sources, are increasingly adopting EcoVapor’s patented treating solution for removing oxygen and meeting pipeline specifications. Since early 2020, installed capacity of the company’s ZerO2 product line has increased nearly threefold to an annual treating capacity of 30 bcf.
The significant expansion of the ZerO2 fleet is driven by the growing importance of reducing emissions in energy production and the increasing importance of Renewable Natural Gas across the U.S.
The primary market drivers include:
- Strengthening demand from producers in our core markets, including the DJ Basin of Colorado and the Permian Basin in Texas.
- Market expansion into the Uinta Basin of Utah and the Bakken oil shale region of North Dakota.
- New product introductions, including smaller ZerO2 units like the E100, which can economically treat smaller gas volumes, creating a true life-of-well solution for operators.
- Product line extensions, including solutions focused on active management of tank pressures, H2S treating and polishing, mobile treating using trailer-mounted equipment, and diagnostic tools for storage batteries.
- Entrance into the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) market with our flexible and modular catalytic deoxo solution for biogas and landfill gas feedstocks.
- Finding new applications for ZerO2 technology, including treating tank vapors at saltwater disposal sites.

“We are proud of EcoVapor’s ability to help energy producers simultaneously improve environmental performance and deliver better financial results,” said Jason Roe, Vice President of EcoVapor. “By reducing emissions and increasing the diversity of the national energy portfolio, EcoVapor’s solutions are helping to strengthen energy security and the sustainability of affordable and reliable energy for everyone.”
About EcoVapor
EcoVapor, a DNOW company, provides gas treating solutions to both geologic and biogas production problems. Our fleet of proprietary ZerO2 oxygen removal (deoxo) units has grown to a fleet of nearly 300 since 2010, operating reliably for leading producers in all major U.S. basins. ZerO2 technology helps Oil & Gas and biogas producers convert waste gas streams into revenue by treating gas to meet pipeline specifications so it can be sold instead of vented or flared, generating incremental value while reducing emissions and improving environmental performance.
EcoVapor is headquartered in Denver, Colorado and has field locations in Greeley, Colorado and Midland, Texas.
